Very interesting eema UK Regional Interest Group meeting this week with the topic Enterprise Data Protection – Is IAM (Identity Access Management) sufficient to protect corporate data?
Patently, it is not as was repeatedly confirmed by references to increasingly frequent data losses.
Interesting presentations were given by Martin Linda of Siemens IT Solutions & Services, Andreas Zengal of PGP Corp, Nader Henein of RIM (Blackberry), and Dragan Pendic of Verizon Business. I was pleased to be able to balance the enterprise ‘user-centric’ approach with the PAOGA ‘user-driven’ VRM proposition which sparked interest and positive debate from the group.

I find that it is useful to try and get such an audience to take off their corporate hats and remind them that, whatever their title or years of experience in the IT security business, they are still citizens, consumers, patients, employees, parents etc and should value the VRM alternative as a benefit not as an adversary.
We all agreed that data security is more about people than technology and, that said, increasing individual participation is inevitable.
