The FT published Making Customers more Revealing by Alan Mitchell describing the increasing awareness and concern of consumers regarding real or perceived abuse of their personal information.
PAOGA, along with others in the UK, recognised this problem some years ago and have been working to provide the tools and personal data stores (digital safe deposit boxes) to enable individuals to protect their identity and manage their personal information under their control, with their consent, for their benefit.
This is the principal of VRM and organisations are beginning to recognise that 'access' to accurate information, with the permission of the individual, provides considerable financial and reputational benefits as well as reducing costs and legal risks.
Now, if only we could get government to respect the rights of citizens by prohibiting the uncontrolled copying of personal information databases onto laptops, CDs and memory sticks . . .
